The Week in iPhone Cases: Taste the rainbow

Given the debut of Apple's new iPhone models, you might expect that this week’s roundup of iPhone protection would be full of cases for those new phones. You would be correct.

Taste the rainbow

Given the debut of Apple's new iPhone models, you might expect that this week’s roundup of iPhone protection would be full of cases for those new phones. You would be correct.

Ballistic

The Aspira (iPhone 5c; $35) combines reinforced corner protection with a flashy design that plays nice with the iPhone 5c’s own colorful appearance.

The case comes in white/charcoal, black/grey, lime/black, or pink/black, and it sports a raised lip on the front to keep your screen safe during falls.

Blue Flame

The Pack (all iPhone models; $100) is a slick backpack that covers all your bases—at least as far as electronics are concerned—with specialized pockets for a smartphone, tablet, and laptop.

The Pack sports a special front flap that uses cleverly-placed magnets to stay open while you look for your things, and it can be converted into a shoulder bag by slinging its two straps over your shoulder.

Pad and Quill

The Little Pocket Book (iPhone 5 and 5s; $60) combines wood and leather with hand-finished book binding into a luxurious case that protects your handset’s every edge. It sports an elastic closure that keeps the case’s cover secure when your phone is not in use.

The Little Pocket Book comes in either a brown or black exterior, with an interior finish available in several more colors.

PureGear

The DualTek Extreme Shock (iPhone 5c; $35) is built with active lifestyles in mind, sporting plenty of protection to match thanks to shock-absorbing corners. It also offers an grippy exterior surface that feels secure in your hand but slides easily in and out of your pockets.

The case is available in matte black, arctic white, or kayak yellow.

Qmadix

The Z Series (iPhone 5 and 5s; price unavailable) is ultra slim and lightweight, with a scratch-resistant translucent finish and a special window on the back to reveal your iPhone’s Apple logo.

The case comes in blue, white, pink, purple, or black.

RocketCases

The Woody (iPhone 5 and 5s; $40) is made entirely from real wood, which means that every case sports a unique look that mirrors the grain of the tree it came from.

The case sports real, working wood buttons that contribute to a uniform look and help protect your device from dust and humidity. The Woody is available in light and dark variants.

Slickwraps

The Glow series (iPhone 5 and 5s; $25) offers a flashy way to keep track of your iPhone. This company’s trademark body skins are designed to protect from scratches while adding minimal bulk, and the Glow series feature glow-in-the-dark designs in blue, green, purple, orange, and yellow.

STM Bags

The Harbour 2 (iPhone 5 and 5s, $30) sports a dual-density polyurethane construction that offers great protection but adds only a little weight to your handset. A hinged stand pops out from the bottom, allowing you to prop up your iPhone in portrait orientation.

The case is available in green, purple, charcoal, or black.
