Carbonite today unveiled Carbonite Business, a flat-rate online backup product for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs).
The service offers automated backup, data encryption and service-level agreements that cover data accessibility.
"Small business owners are increasingly aware of the importance of backing up their business data," said Carbonite CEO David Friend. "Our market research has indicated that they would choose an automatic, cloud-based solution if it were affordable, so we built Carbonite Business specifically to address those needs."
Carbonite said the new service is tailored to meet the needs of two distinct groups -- smaller offices with multiple computers and larger offices that also require server backup.
Carbonite Business backs up an unlimited number of computers for a flat fee of $229 per year, which includes 250GB of storage capacity. The Carbonite Business Premier service backs up an unlimited number of computers and servers and comes with 500GB of storage capacity for $599 per year.
For both its Business and Business Premier offerings, Carbonite uses 128-bit Blowfish encryption to secure data before it's backed up across the Web. Data is then transmitted to data centers using Secure Socket Layer cryptographic protocol. Carbonite Business Premier also includes Windows file server backup and additional storage space.
Users can set the service for continual automatic or scheduled backups or to go to an external hard-drive backup.
The services allow access to stored files from virtually any internet-connected device, and supports both Windows and Mac computers.
The products also include U.S.-based customer support via online chat, email or phone between 8 a.m. and midnight ET.
Both the Business and Business Premier services also include Valet Setup, which allows a Carbonite representative to remotely install the backup application, and Rapid Recovery services, which are designed to accelerate the restore process via an interactive restore wizard, free phone support and a recovery hard drive restore via express courier option.
The company is offering a free 30-day trial of Carbonite Business.
